After beginning the year with a performance at Falls Music & Arts Festival Fremantle, Perth neo-soul outfit Demon Days today release charming new single 'No Winners', to be launched via an 11-date national tour next month. 'No Winners' is available digitally and independently now.
Premiered on Purple Sneakers yesterday, 'No Winners' is a "delightful jam that goes down smooth". All but bubbling over with a sense of restrained mirth that points to the frivolity of missed connections, the track is indebted the likes of Herbie Hancock, with a laidback synth line that slides in neatly behind the beat. Much shorter than their previous slow-burning gem 'Killer Bees', 'No Winners' features warm, futuristic keys from Josh Chan & new member Will Britto, Marley Donnan-Cook on bass, stylish percussion from Mark Ashforth on drums & Bella Nicholls' distinctively smooth, carefree vocals.
Thanks in no small part to their "vivacious" live show, which has the capacity to change any "sizeable crowd of 20-somethings... into an army of appreciative jazz cats" (theMusic.com.au), Demon Days have already shared stages with the likes of Nai Palm, POW! Negro, Sampology, Sex On Toast, Fortunes & Psychedelic Porn Crumpets despite the outfit's relative youth. Having carved an impossibly stylish niche for themselves as the "much loved kids" (RTRFM) of their local scene, the now-five-piece shot to #3 on the AMRAP Airit Metro Chart via 2017's slow-burning gem 'Killer Bees', which they toured nationally to support from triple j and community radio Triple R, PBS, 4ZZZ with rotation on2SER, SYN FM, RTRFM and more.
With myriad wins behind and ahead of them, now set to embark on the "No Winners" tour - Demon Days are delighting in the contradiction.
