Perth’s A-List Hip-Hop and Drum & Bass Artists Join Forces for Homeless
Winter is almost here, and for some, it’s a matter of life and death. A small group of dedicated people, Street Friends, have dedicated their time to providing Perth’s homeless with warm clothing and food. Twenty of Perth’s top names in Hip-Hop and Drum & Bass have joined forces to perform an event to raise money for Street Friends. 100% of profits will be presented on the night.
Spearheaded by Scotty “Assassin” Schmid, owner of Gorilla Tactics Music, the event follows his passion for charity. Since 2009, Scotty has put on events at Rosemount Hotel raising money and working with orphanages in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Romania. His record label provides a launch pad for new unsigned talent enabling them to release world-wide while retaining their full royalties and copyright.
Street Friends is a small group of people headed by Michelle Dunlop focussed on helping Perth’s homeless. They distribute food, sleeping bags and warm clothing in Perth’s CBD to over 150 people each week, however this number is growing. This year they hope to purchase a generator and a clothes dryer so they can set it up each week at the shelter for people to use. The winter months put an especially large strain on their resources.
To raise money for Street Friends, Gorilla Tactics Music will hold an event named “Beats For The Streetz” from 8pm to 12:30am, Thursday 8th of June 2017 at the Rosemount Hotel. The event includes headline acts “Bomb Scott” aka Optamus of Downsyde, Live D&B group Gorilla Tactics and Perth rapper Macshane. Support comes from an a-list line-up including Insinuator, Jenske, Matty D, Mystique, Po$taboy, Roelz, Samantics, Stylee, Traction, Weaponess, Xsessiv and Yattaman.
