Having wrapped his Docks single tour just months ago, award-winning WA alt-folk oddity Jacob Diamond today releases BlueBegets Blue, the second single from his forthcoming debut LP (due in 2018), with a national tour to follow.
Diamond’s trademark neo-literary, zealous songwriting is front and centre of Blue Begets Blue, a raw, cathartic journey ending with the honest realisation that “I love you, but I can’t love you while I’m in this mess.” Mixed, mastered and produced by Lachlan Carrick (Gotye, Ainslie Wills, Gretta Ray), Blue Begets Blue lilts towards its driving, pained chorus as Diamond exclaims “hate calling you with nothing to say, but I’m gonna call you anyway”.
Having dedicated his life to crafting bold, insightful music that “doesn’t go away”, Diamond’s roots are planted firmly in Perth’s underground scene. His twin live-to-tape EPs Chum (2015) and Um (2017) and their subsequent tours both received praise from community radio RTR and online media, with the former earning him the WAM gong for Best Folk Act. Drawing inspiration from his zealous religious upbringing, rock operas and the utter confusion that nobody seems to be able to escape, Diamond’s work is open-hearted, vulnerable and warm.
